MARKETPLACE

We have begun preparing for Marketplace. This will be your TEST for your business as you compete against other teams to see who makes the most profit during the week of Marketplace which will occur the third week in January.

You should have your team members chosen and a good idea of the product you are going to make, market, and sell. All good business ventures begin with a Business Plan.

What is a business plan?
A business plan is any plan that works for a business to look ahead, allocate resources, focus on key points, and prepare for problems and opportunities.
Unfortunately, many people think of business plans only for starting a new business or applying for business loans. But they are also vital for running a business, whether or not the business needs new loans or new investments. Businesses need plans to optimize growth and development according to priorities.

Resource #1 Standard Business Plan Outline

You need to focus on steps 3 and 7 today.

STEP 3 - Product or Service: Describe what you’re selling. Focus on customer benefits.

STEP 7 - Management Team: Describe the organization and the key management team members.

DUE BY THE END OF CLASS: Your Business plan in a Word document with a rough draft of steps 3 & 7 completed. This is going to be a working document that you will add to each class period until the entire Plan is complete. Be sure to save. Sob stories of how you lost all your hard work will not be accepted. Remember this document, along with a Business Presentation, is what you will use to pitch your product to the bank so that you may obtain financing. Your grade depends on your ability to obtain a loan to begin production and complete the project!

You and your parents signed agreeing to use these computers for school use and not for any other means and you also agreed to accept the consequences for actions that do not promote learning and your assignments. YOU HAVE NOW BEEN SERVED A FAIR WARNING!!!

TODAY'S ASSIGNMENT: Finish your Moneyskills!

AM IN AN ENTREPRENEUR?

Today we are going to find out if you have the born skills or the desire to become an entrepreneur! First we need to figure out what an entrepreneur is. Click here and scroll down as you read quietly to yourself.
**What is an Entrepreneur?**

Take the Entrepreneurship Quiz to find out more about yourself **Are you a Born Entrepreneur?**
Click on this page. Click skip to next page. Read "Are You a Born Entrepreneur" as you scoll down the page. Once you are finished reading, click on Take the Quiz.

Go take a look at some Famous Entrepreneurs.....They are divided in categories and I want you to look at all the categories and people who interest you. Be sure to be able to tell me how they became an entrepreneur.
**Famous Entrepreneurs** This should take you approximately 30 minutes. You may share your information quietly with each other but continue to search.

Famous Quotes of entrepreneurs. Search this site for inspiration from your favorite entrepreneurs.
**Famous Quotes of Entrepreneurs**

Search these Google images for famous entrepreneurs or one that is interesting to you. Begin thinking about a Entrepreneur you would like to do your project about. It's always good to use someone that is interesting to you or someone you feel like you are most like.
**Google Images**

Now, Let's do your project! Using Blabberize find either a picture of your Entrepreneur of choice from the Famous Entrepreneurs website or an icon associated with that Entrepreneur. If you don't understand what Icon means....look it up. I want to know everything about him and I want to be wowed! You can use 1st or 3rd person in your Blabberize. How did he/she get started, How are you like the person, what do they do, how do they do it, How successful are they. I want to be able to visualize the person and be entertained by your Blabberize presentation. Go to famous guotes and see if you can find a quote or phrase associated with your Entrepreneur.

I will consider your projects, along with the other classes, when I pick 5 students to accompany me to CHS all day the end of April for the technology fair. I hope I can pick one of your projects to present. We will post all of them to the projects page of the wikispace and possibly one to this page for visitors! Begin today and we will finish on Thursday!

Have you ever heard the saying, Teach a Man to Fish and ..........................? Finish this quote like you think it goes by clicking on the discussion question above. Teach a Man to Fish . . . Don't go look it up on the internet. There is no wrong answer. I will give you more information a little later in class.

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime."
Chinese Proverb
Teach a Man to Fish video If you give a man or a boy a fish they will have food to eat for that day. You will need to give them fish every day or else they will starve. If you teach a man/boy to fish, they can take care of themselves. You may live in a home where your parents do everything or act like you can't do anything. Which makes you step back and just let them do it. What will happen is when you get our on your own, you will have a learning curve as to how to take care of yourself. If parents will slowly give children responsibility according to their age, the person will grow up self sufficient and be able to take care of and provide for themselves. Our countries Welfare system was to help people who were having hard times, it was not established as a way of life. Some families are in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation of Welfare. They don't really know another way of life. If you teach yourself and your family to provide for itself then you will be self sufficient, develop high self esteem, and the sky is the limit.

If you saw the video above. The Teach a Man to Fish concept helps school age children learn to provide for themselves, creating income and self esteem which leads to a fullfilling life of giving to others. Go and answer the discussion questions, Teaching and Learning...a whole new way and tell me any ideas you have about my comments above.
Post a detailed discussion and feel free to ask questions of your fellow students. Remember, that these discussion questions are an easy way to make up for any low MONEYSKILL grades.

FOR FUN: UNBELIEVABLE MATH PROBLEM (Use the calculator on your computer)

Here is a math trick so unbelievable that it will stump you.
Personally I would like to know who came up with this and why that person is not running the country.
Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your Head)
1. Key in the first three digits of your phone number ( NOT the Area code)
2. Multiply by 80
3. Add 1
4. Multiply by 250
5. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.
7. Subtract 250
8. Divide number by 2

Do you recognize the answer??

Investements for small businesses are important. You must always save for a rainey day. Your computer system may crash, an expensive piece of equipment that produces your products may need to be replaced, your building could catch fire, you could be robbed, and well you get the point.

PLAN - SAVE - INVEST

There are all sorts of savings plans for small businesses. A 401k is a way to set up a small savings program where you can save before your taxed on your money. It is always a good idea, and some banks may require, that you have life insurance policies on the primary business owners. You will need workers compensation to cover your employees, disability to cover yourself incase you become unable to perform your daily duties.

The earlier you begin to save, the more money you will make off of your interest. This is called earning interest off of your interest....Compounded Interest. It's a beautiful thing.

Follow this link and read this article entitled Get Rich Slowly - Start Now! Be sure to read about 20 year old Brittanie and look at how easily you could be a Millionare too!

LET'S HAVE SOME FUN! We are going to simulate your investing from today until you are 65 years of age. Your are going to click on the link below but before doing that, here are the numbers I want you to plug in the first time. Put your current age. Use the interest rate of 5 (5%) to be conservative, and let's start by saving $25 per month. Something you could possibly do now, especially if you currently have a job. Let me show you how you can GET RICH SLOWLY!!! Compounded Interest Savings Calculator

What is a Million Dollar Vocabulary?

People in business are frequently judged by how effectively they communicate. The manner in which a person speaks leaves an impression – either true or false – about that person’s intelligence, background, education, and job status. An individual with a comprehensive vocabulary will make a much more powerful first impression than one who lacks in this area, no matter how intelligent or well-educated that person may be. By using words with power, persuasion, and impact, or a million dollar vocabulary, a person can increase his or her communication and boost earning power.
Good communication skills are essential in today’s competitive job market. A prospective candidate may have all the necessary qualifications, but lose out on the job to an individual who is better able to verbally express his or her ideas. But the concept of a million dollar vocabulary takes this a step further and focuses on the selection of specific words that have been shown to contribute to an impression of power and success. Words considered part of a million dollar vocabulary are not necessarily obscure or complex; rather they are words that may be less frequently used and because they are less common, convey a sense of power and confidence.
The best way to illustrate the power of the million dollar vocabulary is to cite illustrations of power words. For example, using the word “gumption” to describe a person’s initiative or courage is far more effective than “nerve” or “guts.” “Augment” is much stronger than “add to” or “increase.” Using “ascertain” rather than “find out” conveys more self-assurance. “Exemplar” or “paradigm” are much stronger words than “example” or “standard.”

You've learned many words both through your Entrepreneurship Coursework and Money Skill. Some of these words you may not be able to recite off hand but they are in your memory bank. The best way to keep these words fresh in your mind is to use them as often as possible. You also need to review them as often as possible. Statistics show that your vocabulary can determine your salary. Don't you want to make as much money as you can for your time and effort? Sure you do. I have a site that helps you practice your vocabulary and helps Charity at the same time. Go sign up and begin reviewing your vocabulary. I want you to visit this site each class period for at least 15 minutes. There are levels you will advance to. I will be giving an AWARD for the student at the highest level in this class come awards day.
